Day 19

You know those outfits that you think you look okay in, until you look at the pictures only to realize you look like a stuffed sausage?

This was the situation with Day 19. It's unfortunate really.

Lessons learned:
1) only wear this green top tucked into something
2) don't wear a cardigan over it
3) As I learned the last time I wore it, don't wear it on hot days.
.
I do like this top but I'm not a fan of items of clothing that seem to have so many rules and apparently this one should have come with an instructions manual.
Luckily I was a loser who had no exciting plans on a Friday night so not too many people saw me in this fail of an outfit.
.
Oh well, they can't all be winners!
.
**Update** Hey! After reading all of your comments I just wanted to explain how this shirt works. This shirt has like 6 layers of fabric and an elastic under the belt. So it's oddly puffy and that's the only belt-able place. I think i'm going to play around with it and see if I can remove a few of the layers which will hopefully help it sit better.. and hopefully cure the 'stuffed sausage' feeling ;) Thanks for all your feedback. You are all so lovely :)

Day 18

Last night was one of those nights where I couldn't sleep for the life of me.

Since I wasn't going to be working until later today, I had this genius plan to get up early and go to the gym before meeting my friend for lunch and then finally going into work.

I got into bed at 11, snuggled up in my blankets and turned on some soft music. When I saw the clock hit 12:00 and then 1:00, I realized falling asleep wasn't going to be an easy task.

I started playing a game that I used to play nightly in high school. I called it the "if I fall asleep now" game.

"If I fall asleep now I'll get 6 hours of sleep."

"If I fall asleep now I'll get 5 1/2 hours of sleep"

"If I fall asleep now I'll get 5 hours of sleep"

When I reached "if I fall asleep now I'll get 2 1/2 hours of sleep" I gave up all hope of functioning normally today. I fell asleep at one point between then and when my alarm went off. I can't remember ever being so angry at my alarm.

Needless to say I didn't make it to the gym.

So here is my day 18 outfit.

But Melissa... we don't remember seeing that yellow skirt in your 30 pieces. Did you cheat?

Of course not. But I did get creative.
Remember this skirt from day 9?

I noticed the other day that I really liked the inside liner of that skirt so I decided to investigate.

Step #1. Remove all of the inside tags

Step 2: Figure out how to make the reverse side of the buttons look nice.

Solution: attach buttons on the inside as well.

Step 3: attach buttons.

My sewing talents are limited but I sure can sew on a button.

I added a belt and that was that!

I'm so happy that my skirt is now two skirts that I'm going to try to reverse all of my clothes!

If inside out skinny jeans don't get me some creativity points then nothing will! ;)

Day 17

.

Dear Neighbors,
.
You have seen me take pictures of my outfit now for 10 of the last 17 days. You have stared out your windows and peaked over your fences in hopes of figuring out what this self involved neighbor girl of yours is doing.
.
I hate to break it to you but I'm doing exactly what you think I am doing. I am turning on the self timer on my camera, placing it on a fence and taking a picture of my outfit. I am not doing anything scandalous that you can gossip about with the other bored neighbors when you take out the garbage.
.
So please, stop finding excuses to go outside while I am taking my pictures because I end up getting distracted when I see you trying to spy on me and it takes me a whole 5 minutes longer to take my pictures... 5 minutes I won't be getting back.
.
Sincerely,
Melissa

.

I needed to wear my pencil skirt before I got really frustrated that I included it in my 30 pieces.
..
Paired with my romper I felt really cute and very over dressed but oh well. As my cousin Alicia has asked recently... When did Vancouverites start dressing so casual?

.
Hoop earrings are from Fine Finds
.Belt and clutch are from Plum and I love them both. I admit that even though I bought this belt ages ago this is one of the first times I've worn it. Is it sad that a simple belt like this makes me feel too done up? I think I need accessory therapy!.
Now I'm watching 500 Days of Summer and re-falling in love with love. I'm a romance addict.
