Whenever the holidays hit I start over thinking what I'm going to wear. I always assume that what I wear to my family events will somehow define how my entire year has gone. I want the comfort of sweat pants, the forgiveness of an elastic waist (this year I ended up with 3 turkey dinners, a lunch and a brunch in a matter of 3 days), and I still want to look put together.
So during my mission to try to find this perfect outfit that screams "I had an amazing year and I swear I have my life together" while being comfortable and stylish, I usually end up only giving myself 5 minutes to pick what I'm going to wear.
Spoiler alert, I ended up wearing a skirt (with an elastic waist) and a blue silk blouse.
I tell myself that I'm not alone, that everyone puts pressure on themselves around the holidays and this is normal. Right? RIGHT?
I have that same idea in my head, and well most of the time I end up wearing something super comfy! I love this look, cobalt is a gorgeous color on you!

Code Overdressed
You chose beautifully & wisely. Practicality at it's finest. I ended up wearing my skinniest jeans (which were not forgiving) but my new boho blouse from Madewell at least hid the preggo dinner stomach! ;) Hope 2014 is starting off with a bang for you and fingers crossed for a catch up soon!! xoxo

gah SO normal! and SO annoying. I also only left myself 5 minutes to pack but it resulted in me bringing my entire wardrobe. even still, I wore the same outfit to everything too. and I don't know why I even care, my family is sooooo relaxed when it comes to get-togethers - jeans and a tee are all I need.
ReplyDeleteHaha, don't worry, I totally had the same thought process! I felt like wearing sweatpants, or really baggy jeans for the food part, but dressing up at the same time. I settled for a lace peplum and very stretchy olive colored skinnies. But, sigh, I get you! I'm loving the bright blue on you! Totally suits your complexion!

First of all, that blue on you is AMAZING! Secondly, I ate way too much food over the break so I totally feel you there and third, elastic waists are amazing..I have plenty of pants that are not so much sweatpants but have an elastic waist.. and I am not ashamed! haha xx
ReplyDeleteI totally overthink things around the holidays... usually something like, "I can't wear that skirt, I wore it last year." No one remembers what you wore last year! I really love your black and blue :)

I choose what I refer to as "eating shirts". Stylish but loose!

Oof I do the same thing, and then I wonder why I worried so much when I go over to someone's house and everyone else is in jeans. My approach now is to dial it up full-tilt, then dial it back two notches so I don't show up overdressed.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful look, the blue top suits you so much! I guess it's a very wise choice to wear a skirt when there is a lot of eating involved!

I definitely agree that a lot of people put pressure on themselves around the holidays (atleast I do). I tend to spend my last week or two in December with either my family or my boyfriend's family, and it's the only time I see them throughout the year. Therefore, I always want to make a good impression and to show how I've grown or matured over the past year. The pressure can definitely leave me in front of a closet for hours though trying to figure out what to wear!
