Just be Honest

Outfit Details:
Coat: Zara
Top: Love Culture
Shorts: UO
Sandals: Payless
Bag: The Bay

In a rebellious move I threw this coat and it's dry clean only tag into the washing machine. I've had every intention of getting it dry cleaned... for the past 2 years ago. Call me the queen of procrastination if you'd like, but mostly I just forgot about it while it sat in the back of my closet.

When I pulled it out of the washing machine I realized one thing. The dry clean only tag lied to me. What it should have said was "you can put this coat in the washing machine but there is a tiny chance your machine might ruin it so I'm telling you to dry clean it to save my own ass". You should have been honest with me Tag. Those are two years without that coat I will never get back.

  1. I never listen to those tags! I put everything into the machine, even shoes.

    PS: I love the top!!

  2. Heh. Yeah, I rarely listen to those tags. On the off-chance that I do, I buy Dryel and do it myself at home anyway.

That blouse is lovely, I adore how it dresses up the shorts!

  3. I have come across those lying tags in the past, and usually come out similarly fine.

I love that polka-dotted top! So pretty!

  4. If it's a tailored piece like a coat or jacket, or it's likely to sag out of shape as the water drips off it, I usually dry clean. For loose flowy silk blouses that don't have tailored seams, I handwash. And for polyester that says dry clean only, I say "BS!" and wash away with no regrets. :)

    Love your polka dot top!

  5. Hello Miss Melissa,

I just stumbled across you blog. Miss Monkey Face actually sent me a link to one of your hair tutorials she claims changed her life ... hope to give it a whirl this weekend.

I only dry clean items that are particularly special or have specific fabric (i.e. silk dress). If it's cotton I just go "Pft! Into the washing machine you go", although might put it on hand wash just to be safe.

  7. Yes I am a rebel with the clothing tags, too. Usually only takes me about six months to risk damaging my item though, you definitely have me beat here. And yay for b&w, one of my favorite color combos everrrrrrr

  8. I think anything is okay in the machine as long as it's cold water and hung up to dry ;)

  9. Just found your blog, and I love it!! This made me laugh out loud, because I totally have a pile of dry clean only items at the bottom of my laundry bag. Usually I'll "test" the ones I don't care too much about...and they almost always turn out!!...on year later.
