Unfashionably Early

Outfit Details:
Dress & Clutch: Vintage
Shoes: Modcloth
Belt: Jacob

I remember the first party I ever went to in high school.  Not only was I the only person there who didn't drink yet, but I arrived so early that I got there before the person hosting the party did. Seriously. I sat in our family van with my mom and I ended up helping the girl set everything up.

I wish I could say that over the years I grew out of my obsessive compulsive need to be early for events but alas, I am early 99.9% of the time. And not even 5 minutes early, I'm talking 30-45 minutes. Even for dinners with my family when I know they will all be late.

If something positive has come out of me being unfashionably early, it's my ability to get dressed really really quickly. Of course I have days where I hum and haw over what to wear, but if I'm on a time limit? No problem.

Like the other day where I told myself I had 5 minutes to run into the house and throw on something before rushing to dinner. Luckily my legs were shaved (over share?) because I was able to throw in this vintage dress and accessorize it with basic black in 3 minutes. I even had enough time to spare that I got to take 2 quick photos!

And then I arrived to dinner 23 minutes early and got to sit in my car tweeting.

I wish I was kidding.

  1. Haha! I wish I were fashionably early... it would save me the trouble and panic of rushing through traffic to get to where I'm going in time. I sadly like to keep my timing tight... I love your dress. That's a great vintage find! The color and the pockets are so modern.

  2. I love this outfit!

I always try to be early-I hate the feeling of being rushed. And when I'm early? I use my phone for Twitter and Facebook. Perfect time-waster!

  3. I'm the same way! Especially at the movies, I always end up waiting at least 20 minutes in the theater before my friends show up during the previews!

  5. I am also early ALL the time! 30-45 minutes! I usually end up re-applying my makeup about 5 times, tweeting, facebooking, reading, napping... it's sad and wonderful all at once. ;)

  7. Haha you are a total freak, but at least you're a fashionable one! I love that color on you.
I hate how all my friends always want to go out at like 10 or 11 at night. Can't we all meet around 8 and be to bed by a reasonable hour? jeesh.

  9. Hi dear,
First of all you look very fresh and stunning actually!
And second, I too share the same passion with time. I always go earlier to my appointments and I get mental when I am about to be late!
My wife gets upset when I try to rush her :)

  11. I am an early monkey, too (I started to say early bird but it just did not seem appropriate). I am imagining poor nervous high school Melissa helping the party girl set up and even though I am giggling I sympathize, I really do. Well you look super lovely for dinner so it ain't your fault that beauty comes so quick and easy!!

  20. In some ways I'm sad I have to admit this, but it's so good to know there is someone else who arrives early for everything, even if they know everyone they'll be meeting will be late. I grew up in a chronically tardy family and I think I overcompensat chronically; I can, and will, get ready for any event in record time, just to arrive twenty minutes early to sit around waiting for everyone else. On the bright side, I like to think I always look fabulous and you definitely do. The dress is just adorable!

  26. Haha your posts always make me laugh. I wish I could be early for things, but I am always the one that's making a mad dash for the door 5 minutes behind schedule and a 30 minute drive ahead of me. But I absolutely love you in this bright colour! What a fabulous vintage find.
