Back in July (look ma! no coat!) while participating in Kendi's 30 for 30 challenge I went through my closet and did what I had been dreading for years. I took all of my barely (or never) worn clothes that I was honestly never going to wear and sold them.
I had been trying to donate them for ages but the fact that I had never worn these pieces honestly broke my heart. There was really nothing wrong with these items but every time I put them on I'd take them off and toss them onto the floor. It was depressing to think that I had made so many poor choices so I was trying so hard to convince myself that I would eventually wear those pieces and the process included many stages from tears and self loathing to excitement and feeling cleansed.
Overall it was an extremely positive experience but selling my clothes was a bit tricky. I had to find girls I knew that were similar to my size (weight changes over the years resulted in a variety of sizes in my closet) and we had to find times where we were both available so they could come over to "shop". The worst part was how awkward I felt about asking people I knew to pay for these items (money makes me uncomfortable).
Luckily, if you're interested in going through that same cleansing process (or purchasing these barely worn items) there is an easier way! I recently learned about
Smashion.com. It's a free fashion marketplace so it's the perfect place to go to buy and/or sell never worn or barely worn clothing. It's also filled with forums, a blog and lots of other fun fashion related stuff.
I was extremely honoured when they asked to interview me for their new Smashion Lounge (read my interview
here) especially since they are such supporters of fashion and style blogs (they've interviewed some other pretty lovely bloggers that I already enjoy... i'm talking to you
Keikolynn, Angeline,
Liz and
Ashley).
Thanks again to
Smashion for taking the time to get to know lil ol' me. And for introducing me to another community of people who love style and fashion!
