When I found this cardigan at the Gap I was instantly drawn to it. I didn't really need it but that didn't mean I couldn't carry it around the store with me for 20 minutes while I looked at other items I didn't need right? Luckily I noticed that it was on sale for $10 before I had to go through the actual process of trying to convince myself to put it down.. something that could potentially result in a full blown tantrum. (juuuust kidding. sort of)
I wasn't sure why I loved it so much until a few weeks back when I went to see "Grease the Musical" at Queen Elizabeth Theatre. In preparation for a night of singing and dancing in my seat I decided to watch the movie... and that's when I saw it. Danny Zuko wearing his school's letterman sweater. The stripes on the sleeves were identical to the ones on my beloved Gap cardigan.
You see, when I was growing up I had an obsession with the 50's. Every year for halloween I put on my poodle skirt and danced around the streets trick or treating. However the obsession didn't end there.
.
My parents had a collection of cassette tapes with songs from the 50's and I listened to them religiously (aside from a temporary New Kids on the Block phase and "Crocodile Rock" by Elton John) and I even owned my own pair of saddle shoes. .
So it only makes sense that I would be drawn to a sweater that reminds me of a decade I was so fond of during my childhood.
Cardinan: Gap. Infinity Scarf: Fine Finds. T-shirt: American Apparel. Jeans: True Value Vintage. Boots: Steve Madden (DSW, NY). Purse: Plum. Anchor Earrings: ShopRuche.
It's also appropriate that I chose to wear this letterman sweater on a day that involves watching so much football. I like football as much as the next girl, but I am not sure how guys (and some girls I guess) can watch 4 games in a row... but I guess not many guys could understand how I could watch 8 reruns of Sex and the City in a row so I guess we're even?
