Snow Day

Sweater: H&M. Jeans: Old Navy. Boots: Aldo. Scarf: Le Chateau. Gloves: The Bay. Earrings: Vintage.

Lately I've been noticing that when I go to figure out what to wear for the day I think "what should I wear?" instead of "what do I want to wear?"  I try to base my outfits around what I think other people want to see as opposed to what I actually want to wear.

Reading fashion blogs is always enjoyable but sometimes instead of being inspired  by other bloggers I just wish I could look like them or dress like them. I have to remember that all of us women are so different in so many ways and I can't compare myself.

So maybe not every outfit I want to wear will inspire all of my readers but maybe the occasional outfit will. And if it's what I want to wear then at least it's a reflection of me as opposed to an outfit based on what I think I should wear which is just a reflection of the pressures I put on myself.

So today, on a random Thursday where I did nothing but laundry I decided  I wanted to wear sequins.

Which made me happy, but obviously didn't impress my puppy enough to make her forget the fact that the snow was too high for her to run around and play in.

  1. You look so cute! Love the vintage earrings and bright blue scarf, and your puppy is adorable in that final pic. :)

These days I find myself saying "What should I wear?" instead of "What do I want to wear?" more often because of the abominable weather. "What should I wear?" is usually followed by "if I don't want to freeze to death today."

  2. That sweater is really cute! And your puppy is so adorable.

I'm with you on the "should/want" outfit thing. I mainly try to pick something I feel comfortable in but look cute at the same time. I think at times it is easily to notice women wearing something that doesn't seem to suite them/they look very uncomfortable in (I've done it before). All of us have different styles and what might look fabulous on you might look awkward on me. :)

  3. Hi, I've been reading your blog for a bit, but this is my first comment! I hope its okay for me to comment on your blog! I really like this outfit and the pictures!! And the sequins are so fun! I started reading and writing my own style blog to understand more about what I want to wear as well, and so I enjoyed this post! :)

  5. Ah, I know exactly what you mean! I think you just took the words right out of my mouth. A couple of times this week I've had to take a second to remind myself that I shouldn't dress exactly like this blogger or that blogger... it would be boring if we all looked the same! And I should wear what I want to wear, no matter if I've worn it on the blog before!

On another note... I really love this little outfit, especially the sequins, and these photos are adorable. Snow makes the prettiest back drop!!

  6. How adorable are you Melissa! Love that sweater from H&M, I considered buying it so many times last year but decided not to... kinda regretting it now!

Anyway, I totally agree with you about "should" vs. what you want to wear. Sometimes I find myself reaching for something that isn't true to my style just because it's more interesting. I'm lucky to have my bf to stop me and make sure I don't do it!

    Happy weekend!

  7. I completely agree with the want/should thing and especially about the other bloggers. Sometimes I get really insecure when I look at how cute and fashionable other people are. I just always have to remind myself that instead of comparing, I should be thankful for what I have and to just do/wear what suits me best.

P.s. I'm pretty jealous you have snow right now. We just have yucky rain!

  12. Okay that picture of the dog is hysterical.

You look absolutely beautiful! This post struck a chord with me because I do the same thing, I wonder what I *should* wear or what would make everyone else happy. I love that you dressed for YOU. We should all do that!
