While holiday events are a great excuse to fill your closet with frilly and glitzy dresses and accessories, it can leave you with a shopping hangover in the new year when your credit card bill arrives and you have a closet full of items you're probably only going to wear once (I'm talking to you stunning BCBG dress).
Luckily there is a way to survive the holidays while looking perfectly festive without breaking the bank.
1. The Little Black Dress: If you can find the little black dress that is perfect for you then you are set. You can dress it up, dress it down or add accessories to make it look like a completely different dress. You might already have a LBD in your closet but if not you should be able to find one that fits in any size budget.
2. Diamond Earrings: Diamond (or faux-diamond) earrings, like this pair from Fine Finds, are an easy way to make any outfit holiday ready. I like to keep them in my clutch if I am going from one holiday party to another because it's an easy way to dress up an outfit.
3. Red lipstick: I am so happy I finally found my ideal red lip colour. I'm not sure why it was such a difficult colour for me to find but now that I have it i'll be wearing it all through the holidays. I think it'll be the perfect way to make a sweater and jeans seem that much more festive. For those of you wondering, I wear MAC Heartless.
4. Dr.Scholl's Fast Flats: I was sent a sample of these a few weeks back but I wanted to wait until I had tried them out before telling you about them. For those of you who haven't heard of them, they are black ballerina flats that you can fold up to fit easily in any clutch. After giving them a try I just had to add them to my holiday must haves. You know that moment near the end of a party when you realize you can't take another step in your heels and you end up spending the rest of the night sitting watching everyone else dance? Swap your heels for these flats and you'll be ready to dance the night away.
I also like to use them when I go to dinners at friend's homes. I hate walking around barefoot but I feel silly putting on socks when i'm all dressed up, so these flats act as a stylish slipper. Definitely worth $14.99 (and I think I saw them on sale for $12.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart recently... even better! -- they are in the footcare section with the insoles)
5. Advil: Is it just me or does spending a lot of time with family give you a headache? haha juuust kidding. Happy Holidays!

I love that BCBG dress, it's so girly and festive :) I agree with the LBD point you suggested, sadly I haven't found my perfect one yet.
