When I found this cardigan at the Gap I was instantly drawn to it. I didn't really need it but that didn't mean I couldn't carry it around the store with me for 20 minutes while I looked at other items I didn't need right? Luckily I noticed that it was on sale for $10 before I had to go through the actual process of trying to convince myself to put it down.. something that could potentially result in a full blown tantrum. (juuuust kidding. sort of)
I wasn't sure why I loved it so much until a few weeks back when I went to see "Grease the Musical" at Queen Elizabeth Theatre. In preparation for a night of singing and dancing in my seat I decided to watch the movie... and that's when I saw it. Danny Zuko wearing his school's letterman sweater. The stripes on the sleeves were identical to the ones on my beloved Gap cardigan.
You see, when I was growing up I had an obsession with the 50's. Every year for halloween I put on my poodle skirt and danced around the streets trick or treating. However the obsession didn't end there.
.
My parents had a collection of cassette tapes with songs from the 50's and I listened to them religiously (aside from a temporary New Kids on the Block phase and "Crocodile Rock" by Elton John) and I even owned my own pair of saddle shoes. .
So it only makes sense that I would be drawn to a sweater that reminds me of a decade I was so fond of during my childhood.
Cardinan: Gap. Infinity Scarf: Fine Finds. T-shirt: American Apparel. Jeans: True Value Vintage. Boots: Steve Madden (DSW, NY). Purse: Plum. Anchor Earrings: ShopRuche.
It's also appropriate that I chose to wear this letterman sweater on a day that involves watching so much football. I like football as much as the next girl, but I am not sure how guys (and some girls I guess) can watch 4 games in a row... but I guess not many guys could understand how I could watch 8 reruns of Sex and the City in a row so I guess we're even?

Very cute look, especially with that big scarf! I don't think I could sit through football or sex and the city but that's because I'm more of a Futurama/family guy kind of gal!
ReplyDeleteI have that same cardi, although mine is the raspberry color with mustard stripes. Can't wait to wear it!
ReplyDeleteWhere's the infinity scarf from? I'm searching for another one. My first one from Forever 21 is great for layering...
Liz: I also enjoy Family guy, but I could watch SATC for hours and hours and hours ;)
ReplyDeleteTeaching in Heels: I got this one from a boutique in Vancouver called "Fine Finds". If you're looking for an infinity scarf (aka, circle scarf) I highly recommend modcloth. I have 2 from there and I adore them!
1) LIAR. You didn't dress up as a 50's girl EVERY halloween... Just every 2nd year!
ReplyDelete2) Those cassette tapes were the best thing ever. I'm pretty sure Mom bought them from the grocery store? Haha I personally loved the case they came in. I liked arranging the tapes in order. :p
3) "Are you related to the New Kids on the Block?" hahaha
Love the sweater. I love watching football because it's only two days a week. I can't keep up with the NBA, MLB, or NHL schedules that play more than once a week. I also love a good SATC marathon, too!
ReplyDeleteLove the sweater! I'm now tempted to go find a similar one... come December 1st.
ReplyDeleteI don't get the football thing either. I could watch a TV series for that long since they're following a narrative but with sports, I max out at 3 hours.
Haha, very good point in comparing football & sex and the city... speaking of which, football is STILL on my tv, 8 hours later or whatever it is since we tweeted about it! Ha! You look adorable, as always... love the preppy cardi!
ReplyDeleteLove the sweater!
ReplyDeleteI can sit and watch 8 hour of football and 8 hours of Sex and the City. I love them both!
The Auspicious Life
I like that AA stiped tee, perfect for layering!
ReplyDeleteOooh! I love when things are on sale like that! I love the navy, I have a new obsession with it! Hope you had a wonderful weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sooo obsessed with everything about this outfit, the boots, scarf, cardigan ... everything. It's adorable and perfect!
